Instant noodles are great because you can always add fresh ingredients to give the noodles a fuller flavor. The August Umai Cratereceived one of two noodle bowls that both had a rich and hearty broth. By simply adding a few more ingredients, you can transform a simple noodle into a full Japanese experience!
Directions: Open the lid and remove the soup packet. (For the Tanuki Soba, we suggest breaking up the tempura pieces.) Empty the soup packet and chili pepper into the bowl and add hot water to the line. Close the lid and let the noodles sit for 3 minutes. Once the noodles are ready, remove the lid, and stir the noodles.
Here’s the fun part!
We chose to go with more traditional toppings to compliment the dashi-based broth: Chopped scallions, fish cakes (kamaboko and naruto), and shredded nori.
You could also add an egg, sliced carrots, shiitake mushrooms, and spinach to make a heartier meal! For those who love spicy dishes, you can always add more chili flakes or slices of jalapenos.
